As an eternal child of Hawaii, an appreciator of local grindz, and someone who spent a good two years working at Alan Wong's Restaurant, I'm so happy to hear about the White House Luau going on today! My old restaurant family is cooking for 2200+ people and bringing local flavor (along with some locally-grown produce and a lot of ko choo jang sauce) to D.C. Hopefully it'll spread awareness of Hawaii's agricultural industry which along with anything not related to tourism gets relatively little support.
I can't wait to read the menu they prepared. This story makes me miss Hawaii food like crazy. If anyone can hook up an East Coast transplant with a tomato from Hamakua Springs, I will love you forever.
