My roommate and I did some impromptu kitchen work today. Will is a maniac with a screwdriver and completely ripped off one of the wall's ugly floral-print faux-tile panels to reveal another (but slightly chic-er) faux-tile panel beneath it. We also took off the doors to our horrendous-looking cabinets as an initial step towards open shelving. It needs a lot of work, but hopefully soon our kitchen can join the ranks of ones like these:
These floor-to-ceiling shelves and the collection they house are pretty fab (but also pretty extreme):
