Alive and Kickin'

Well people, it's been quite a week! I survived a very crazy accident of fainting in the subway station and falling into the tracks. An unidentified gentleman saw me lying unconscious and jumped down and tried to lift me up and out of the tracks. He didn't have enough time before the oncoming train came into the station so he positioned me in between the rails before jumping out. His selfless and brave actions saved my life! I'm bruised, stitched up, and (now) scabby but I'm beyond lucky and so thankful!

My subway savior disappeared and has not been identified. The romanticized notion is that this man is some sort of super hero, a mysterious strongman who shuffles around Gotham waiting for his next call of duty. But it's come to my realization that he's probably just a regular dude who was doing his regular routine, who was caught in the middle of an unusual situation and made a very compassionate choice. He is proof that kindness, nobleness, and empathy still very much exists in our increasingly disconnected and cynical world.

Please try to pass on his good deed in some little way; help a neighbor, acknowledge someone's good work, thank somebody.

Thanks to Dan for this photo of me under the L-train. It is safe to say that I was neither dancing on nor partying on.
